Here's all the photo's I took at the San Diego Beer Club's 2nd Anniversary event. It was a beautiful day in Pacific Beach for an 8 hour long pub crawl. Drinks were cheap, the sun was out and the bars were close, what more could you ask for. |

This black & tan is a blend of a Continental Pilsner and an English Porter, but it's not actually made by the Mississippi Brewing Co, but rather it's contracted out to the Matt Brewing Company for Mississippi.
-
ABV: 5.0%
-
Style: Black & Tan
-
Smell: Subtle barley and wheat aromas can be picked up from this beer, but they are best sampled from the bottle than the glass.
-
Head Retention: Poor
-
Color: A dark brown with red hues
-
Taste: Although this is called a Black & Tan, it's more like a Tan & Black. The first thing you notice is the bitterness of the Continental Pilsner they blend in the beer. Before the malty finish, you should notice some hints of chocolate.
-
Overall:This isn't a bad beer, but there is nothing that amazing about it either. The low level of carbonation makes it pretty easy to drink, but it's the kind of beer you could have one or two of and then be ready to try something else. I'd rate this firmly as a 6.5/10.

Anchor Steam is made by the Anchor Brewing Company in San Francisco, California. It is their oldest beer, which got it's start way back in 1896, which is why Anchor Steam is their premier brew and is distributed nationwide. Back then, Steam was used as a nickname for beer brewed on the west coast where modern luxuries, like ice and manufacturered brewing tins, were not apart of everyday life. Thus the word steam refers to the pressure of CO2 being let out after the natural carbonation process had finished.
Smell: Very crisp, with a hint of citrus.
Head Retention: Good
Color: A rich amber will highlight your glass and you'll notice it's slightly hazy if held up to a bright light.
Taste: Plentiful amounts of 2-Row barley are used during the brewing process, and you'll find that flavor present from the moment it hits your palate. A light hoppy flavor is noticable upon finish, a great way to end the tasting.
Overall: Anchor Steam is naturally carbonated, which makes it a real pleasure to drink. The finer CO2 bubbles don't upset or mask any of it's flavors, letting you savor this beer from start to finish. I'd rate it an 8.5/10.

King's Cup is a great game to play if you have 4 or more people. This game is also known as Circle of Death and also Kings. To play, you'll need the following:
- 1 Deck of Cards
- 1 Tall Cup or Glass
- Beer, Liquor and/or Wine
The rules to this game are simple. Place your empty cup or glass in the center of the table and spread the cards out (face-down) around the cup in a circle. Each person playing will draw a card and complete the corresponding challenge below before the next person draws.
Note: The first person to break the circle of cards going around the cup must take a drink.
If you draw a:
- 2: Two is for you, so you can pick another player at the table to drink twice, or two people to drink once.
- 3: Three is for me, so the player who drew the card must drink three times.
- 4: Four is for whores - All ladies playing the game must drink once.
- 5: Five is do the hand jive. Much like the game of Simon Says, the person who picked the card must do a gesture with their hands and the person to their left must repeat the first gesture and add their own. This continues until someone forgets to do a gesture, in which case they drink.
- 6: Six is for dicks - All men playing the game must take a drink.
- 7: Thumb Master - The person who picked this card is now the thumb master, which means at any point in the game, you can place your thumb on the table and everyone else that is playing must follow suite. Putting your thumb on the table is a subtle gesture, so people usually won't notice right away that your thumb is on the table. The last person to put their thumb on the table must drink. You keep the title of thumb master until someone else draws a seven.
- 8: Pick a Mate - Pick someone at the table to drink with you.
- 9: Bust a Rhyme - The player must pick a word or short phrase and the person to their left must rhyme with it. This continues until someone fails to rhyme, in which case they drink.
- 10: Story Time! This is a tough one; the player who drew the card must start a story (Once upon a time... or There once was a...) and the next player must add only one word to the story. The story must continue like that in one word increments until someone says a word that doesn't grammatically fit.
- Jack: Make a Rule - This is a fun one that requires some creativity. You must make a rule that will be enforced for the rest of the game. Common rules include: No first names, you can't say drink drank or drunk, and you can't let your drink touch the table (Coaster Rule). Anyone who breaks the new rule must drink once.
- Queen: Questions - As soon as this card is flipped, the questions begin. The person who flipped the queen must ask the first question and the person to their left should respond with another question. This continues until someone answers a question or fails to ask a question.
- King: King's Cup - The person who draws a King must pour a fair quantity of their drink, whatever it may be, into the King's Cup in the center of the cards. When the 4th King is chosen, that person must then chug whatever is in the King's cup and the game is over.
- Ace: Waterfall - Whoever drew the Ace starts the waterfall. Everyone must start drinking at the same time and no one can stop drinking until the person to their right stops.

Yellowtale is a delicious pale ale made by the Ballast Point Brewing Company in San Diego, California. For over 12 years, Ballast Point has brewed some of the most excellent beer in the San Diego area. They distribute five beers nationally, but they also have many seasonals which are only available at the brewery.
ABV: 4.6%
- Smell:Kinda smells like biscuits, with some rich hops accenting the aroma
- Head Retention:Good
- Color: A lighter amber hue that shimmers like gold under the right lighting.
- Taste: This beer is nicely carbonated and very refreshing. Smooth and slightly malty with a hint of bitterness as it finishes. It is rich in flavor and somewhat hoppy, but not overpowering to the senses.
- Overall:This is one of my favorite beers brewed in San Diego. It's very drinkable and can be had repeatedly without upsetting your stomach. I'd rate it an 8/10.
